His Face belongs to a series of surrealist portraits that the artist painted in 1952-1954. Zeno’s portraiture aimed to convey the true identity of her subject, from inside to outside, and thus the personalities and characteristics of each sitter is made manifest in her images. While many of these portraits wryly mocked the vanity of the sitters; works such as Ni hablar del peluquín (No Use to Talk about the Little Wig...), or Jorge - Je me moque de vous, the tone of this work is decidedly less acerbic, and is more likely to be a portrait of one of Zeno’s lovers from the period.
